Habitat is a card game. It does not carry advertising, and it contains no third‑party tracking of any kind. The short version: we store your game progress so you do not lose it, we count how runs go — anonymously — so we can balance the game, and almost nothing else.
Who we are
Habitat is made by Eliarc Studios Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17437056), registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. Eliarc Studios is the “controller” of the data described here, which is the law’s word for who is responsible for it, and is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator (registration reference ZC266679). For anything on this page — a question, a copy of your data, or a deletion request — write to privacy@habitattcg.com.
What is stored on your device
Your progress is saved on the device you are playing on: the creatures you own, your amber, your decks, your rank, your best runs and any run you are part way through. If you never sign in, that is the only place it exists — which also means clearing your browser data or reinstalling the app will lose it.
What is stored on our server
If you sign in, the same progress is kept on our server so it survives a new phone or a reinstall. That record contains:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A random player number we generate | To know which save is yours. It is not derived from anything about you. |
| An identifier from Apple, Google or Steam when you sign in | So you can get your account back on another device. This is the anonymous account number those services give us — not your name and not your email address. |
| A display name, if you choose one | The name shown beside your scores on the leaderboards. It is optional, it can be anything you like and does not have to be your real name, and you can change or clear it on your Profile at any time. If another player reports a name as offensive, we keep the name as it was when it was reported until the report has been dealt with. |
| Your game progress | Cards, amber, decks, rank, run history and achievements. |
| A record of purchases | The store’s transaction number, which pack it was, and the amount — so the packs you paid for are delivered once and only once. |
| A record of ranked and daily runs | The moves a run was made of, so a score on a leaderboard can be checked rather than taken on trust. |
Anonymous game statistics
When a Free Run or a Story run ends, the game sends us a short note of how it went, so we can see where runs end and make the game fairer. It says:
- which mode and difficulty it was, and which Story stage, if any;
- whether it was won, and how many Seasons it lasted;
- the score, rounded — 12,345 is sent as 12,000;
- which types of creature were in play, and how many discards, wards and purchases were made;
- which version of the game it was, and the date — never the time.
It contains nothing that identifies you. It is sent without signing in, and no player number, account, device identifier, name or IP address is stored with it. Because nothing in it can be traced back to you, it is not linked to your account — which also means there is nothing of yours in it for us to show you or delete. Daily and ranked runs are not included; they are covered above. The demo never sends anything.
You can switch it off at any time in the game’s Settings → Anonymous stats.
What we never collect
- Your real name or postal address. (A display name for the leaderboards is optional, and is whatever you choose to type.)
- Your date of birth.
- Your email address — unless you choose to give it to us on the website, which is a separate thing and is covered below.
- Your card or payment details. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, Google or Steam, and we never see them.
- Your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
- Advertising identifiers. There are no adverts in Habitat.
- Behavioural tracking or third‑party analytics. There are no third‑party scripts in the game at all, and the anonymous game statistics described above are the only thing we count.
If you join the mailing list
The website has a box you can put your email address into, to be told when Habitat can be wishlisted on Steam. That is the only place we ask for an address and it is entirely optional — the game itself never asks.
If you use it we hold your address, and nothing else, for that purpose alone. You will get a confirmation that you are on the list, and one further email the day the Steam page goes live. There is no newsletter and there are no offers. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and you can also just write to us and ask. We do not sell or share the list.
Your address is kept until you unsubscribe or until the Steam email has been sent and the list is no longer needed, whichever comes first.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Under UK and EU data protection law we rely on three grounds. The mailing list rests on your consent, which is why it is a box you choose to fill in and why every message can end it. Most of the rest is necessary to provide the game you asked for — there is no way to give you your collection back on a new phone without keeping a copy of it. The record of runs and purchases rests on our legitimate interest in a leaderboard that means something and in delivering paid content exactly once. The anonymous game statistics identify nobody, so they are not personal data at all — but you can still switch them off.
Who else sees it
Only the companies that have to:
- Apple, Google and Steam — they handle sign‑in and take payments. They have their own privacy policies, and they tell us only that a sign‑in or a purchase was genuine.
- Our hosting provider — the company whose computers the server runs on.
- Our email provider — only if you joined the mailing list, and only so the two emails can actually be sent.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or pass it to anyone else.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Data is stored in the United Kingdom or the European Union. We keep it for as long as you have an account. Ask us to delete it and we will, along with the account it belongs to.
Two things survive a deletion, and only because the law requires it: a record that a purchase happened, which we must keep for tax and accounting, and any record needed to resolve a dispute already under way. Neither contains anything that identifies you beyond the store’s own transaction number.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or send you a copy in a form you can take elsewhere. Write to privacy@habitattcg.com and we will answer within one month.
If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Children
Habitat is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly hold data about them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so in the game rather than quietly updating this page.
Last updated: 6 October 2026. What changed: the company’s registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office is now given under “Who we are”. Nothing about what the game collects has changed.
